About 18 freshman students and 2 teachers went on this year’s STEM trip to the Chesapeake Bay. They left late Saturday night and came back early Monday evening. While in the Chesapeake Bay, they went canoeing, marsh mucking, and enjoyed lots of walks on the beach. Ava Thompson is a freshman at HHS who has done one year of STEM.
“We got to walk on the beach at sunset so that was probably my favorite part because it was so pretty and it was cool to see the beach at a different time than I normally do,” Thompson said.
Somya Siraj has been doing STEM for three years. Her favorite memory was playing a version of hide and seek with everyone in her group. Siraj also enjoyed canoeing and walks on the beach.
“I had an amazing time and it was just a great experience. I would definitely recommend it to other STEM students,” Siraj said.
Freshman Ned Grant has also been a part of the STEM program for three years. His favorite part of the trip was going marsh mucking. Marsh mucking is walking in the wetland that filters. holds and nurses the environment around it.
“It was cool to be able to see the basic things we learn about every day in real life,” Grant said.
