Katie Grace Schwartz is a sophomore at HHS. Schwartz is a swimmer on the HHS swim team. She has been swimming for 10 years and has had roots in the sport from her parents.
The HHS Swim and Dive team is a sport where students at HHS go to Westover Park to practice and compete in swimming competitions. The Swim team has been an opportunity for Students at HHS for many years. Everyone at the meet is challenged and teamwork can be a big part of that.
“We have relays, so that means that everybody has to participate, where nobody is doing the same thing. Your specific abilities help the whole team because your specialty stroke could be different than somebody else’s. So we need everybody to help,” Schwartz said.
Teamwork is a big part of the swim team, with all the students pitching in. While at the meet the players not only try to give their best but also practice technique
“Technique helps the most, because the more you work on your technique, the faster you can go in a race…Working with technique you use your energy to move yourself faster and each movement has to be precise,” Schwartz said.
Along with practicing every Wednesday and Saturday, the students have special techniques for swimming that they practice to get better. Students can have a good time and focus on being a better player.
“[Swim is] really fun, it is a good team environment, and it’s a great sport because it’s good for a lot of different sports and for cross-training,” Schwartz said.
