The Harrisonburg High School band plays with Rocktown’s High School band at their football game. One of the first times both bands have played for the other school’s football game ever since the school had split up. The HHS band joins the RHS band and both bands come together to play fun tunes in the stands and perform their show “Forged Together” during halftime. Olivia Carickhoff is a sophomore at HHS and plays the piccolo for the Rock City Regiment at Rocktown High School for their football game.
“Being at Rocktown was a nice change from being at HHS. I enjoy being with the band people from Rocktown because they are still my friends and I don’t get to see them as much. The most memorable thing was probably playing Get It On for pre-game. It was a big change from last year but it wasn’t a bad change, it was good to continue to be together.” Carickhoff said.
Carickhoff has been a part of the band for a couple of years and plans on continuing. Freshman Arez Koyee plays clarinet in the HHS band and it is her first year being in a combined band.
“My favorite part of the combined football game was probably being in the stands with everybody, we all played together and everyone was hype,” Koyee said.
Many other students shared the same feelings about how they felt about the band being combined for the RHS football game. Annaliese Rhodes plays the mellophone in the HHS band and it is her first time playing for Rocktown’s football game.
“I think that it is a good experience being with both schools because it helped us get better at performing our show,” Rhodes said.
All students agree that combining both bands, for the football games, has been a beneficial experience.
