The school population has split in half, but the structure of the building has remained mostly the same. Even though the school building itself is the same, for many students it feels very different.
Junior Isaac Eberly likes the new vibe of school and having more space around the building.
“It’s so much calmer and there’s nobody around. It’s great. It’s a better vibe,” Eberly said.
Junior Lily Bergey also enjoys the emptiness that came with the school split.
“It’s easier to get to class on time and the cafeteria is not too crowded, you’re able to find a table,” Bergey said.
Junior Nolan Beach and Eli Long like that there is more space in the parking lot.
“It’s so much better. [There are] new parking spots, [and] more parking spots, and you can park closer to school,” Long said.
Beach likes the ease of getting to school at a more convenient time.
“You don’t have to get here like 15 minutes before the bell rings to get a decent spot,” Beach said. “Also, leaving you don’t have to wait like 15 minutes for the initial rush so that you don’t get in a crash. You can just leave immediately and it’s not very scary.”
Even though Beach enjoys having more space in the parking lot, he doesn’t like the changes that they made for drivers on Garbers Church Road in front of the school.
“It went from two lanes to one lane, and now the right turn lane gets backed up if there’s a red light. You have to wait a long time in the turn lane,” Beach said.
Even though some enjoy having a smaller student body, sophomore Jack Powers misses the atmosphere of a big school.
“I like it with a lot of people, so with it being less crowded, it’s not as good,” Powers said.
Junior Ethan Noll is glad he stayed at HHS after the school split.
“I think it’s better than Rocktown because a lot of the fun people stayed here. Even though their school is architecturally nicer, ours is just a better community,” Noll said.
Freshman Oliver Howdyshell likes the atmosphere that HHS has better than what he has heard about Rocktown.
“We have a better community than them because people are nicer. It’s because we like sticking together,” Howdyshell said.
Change in school environment is evident
