On April 22, the first class of the HHS National English Honors Society (NEHS) was inducted. Juniors Lucy Rose, Jacob Byrd and Michelle Waligora are excited about the upcoming year.
Waligora, a member of the organization, wants to read more through the National English Honors society.
“I like books, and I’m excited about reading through the club,” Waligora said.
Byrd joined NEHS because of his longtime passion for reading.
“I enjoy reading a lot. [NEHS] is just a continuation of my study of the english language,” Byrd said.
Byrd was elected the treasurer and keeps an account of the clubs funds spent and earned throughout the year. He enjoyed the induction ceremony.
“Mr. Loughran and the other advisors gave good speeches,” Byrd said. “The food was also pretty good.”
Rose joined to help others who need a little ego boost within the context of the written word.
“[I joined NEHS] because I love english,” Rose said. “The english honors society has given me confidence in my writing and I want to help others who don’t have confidence.”
Rose was nominated for the vice presidency of the club. Her job is to communicate with other members.
“I’m excited for next year,” Rose said. “We’re hoping to join with the middle school and get people excited about the written word through book clubs.”
