One of our 9th grade class presidents, Tucker Wyatt, was interviewed about JROTC. He is not currently in the program but his opinion about it is high.
“JROTC serves many important purposes [for students]. It is a great organization that helps kids put their assets in the right spot.” Wyatt said.
Freshman Isis Gutierrez, enrolled in JROTC, absolutely loves it.
“It is an amazing experience for all those in it. It’s one of my favorite classes,” Gutierrez said.
“Usually we have curriculum everyday, and every Tuesday and Thursday we have physical training. This would be step, drill, or color guard. There’s also raider, which is intense,” Gutierrez said. Most members have preferences of which physical training activities are their favorite.
“It depends [what my favorite practice would be]. I think it would be drill, because we have to keep a straight face and everything is so funny. There’s such a variety of fun people in drill too. It’s great.” Gutierrez said.
Freshman Jose Escobar’s favorite after school activity would be raider.
“It’s a lot of fun and helps build endurance. It pushes us beyond our limits” Escobar said.
JROTC students are required to wear their uniforms to school every Wednesday.
“It’s not comfortable to be in, and it’s very hot, but I think it makes me look good. Plus, S. Major said girls dig men in uniform,” Escobar said.
Everybody who is in JROTC definitely recommends it to their friends. They all love their practices and classes every day. JROTC had a very high reputation with everybody involved.
“[JROTC] has made me a leader in so many ways. It has given me much more confidence, and given me another family,” Gutierrez said.
