Blue Streak band program wins 10th Virginia Honor Band award

Wednesday, Mar. 9, the Harrisonburg High School Concert Band and Symphonic Band performed at the Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors District V Concert Band Assessment at Spotswood High School. Ensembles are assessed by four evaluators who analyze the band’s performance in seven categories in an on stage prepared performance, as well as a sight reading experience: Tone Quality, Intonation, Technique, Rhythm, Balance, Musicianship, and General Factors.
Results:
The Concert Band earned straight superior ratings on state for an overall superior rating. The Concert Band is conducted by Claire Leeper.
The Symphonic Band performed grade 6 music (the highest level) and earned straight superior ratings and A’s in all categories.The Symphonic Band is conducted by Daniel Upton.
The Virginia Band and Orchestra Directors Association will award the Harrisonburg High School Band with the Virginia Honor Band award for this superior performance along with the superior performance of the Marching Blue Streak Band at the State Marching Assessment in the fall. This will be Harrisonburg’s 10th Virginia Honor Band award.
