If you want to talk about hillbillies you should refer to the documentary, The Wild and Wonderful Whites. The film centers around the White family, which is an infamous clan located in West Virginia whose claim to fame is the patriarch of the family, D. Ray White, a famous mountain dancer. During the course of the film The Whites do drugs, drink moonshine, have babies, and are reprimanded by the law multiple times.
I’m not one to like crazy reality smack downs, but The Wild and Wonderful Whites is really different, because instead of being glamorous and stupid like The Real Houswives, they are hillbillies who don’t give a crap about anything. Even though it is a documentary it’s truly funny to watch them live their life and give their backward opinions about drugs and the law.
But it isn’t always a comedy, there are times when you can truly feel for the Whites like when one of their babies is taken away from them for snorting drugs in the nursery. When D. Ray White dies unexpectedly in the middle of the film, you get to see a softer less rowdy side of the Whites which is a touching moment.
I know a lot of people think documentaries are incredibly boring, but the Whites are like the Kardashians mixed with My Big Redneck Wedding, in a way that isn’t as predictable as one would think. I recommend this for people who want to watch a movie that isn’t the same old documentary or comedy.
