COVID-19 has not held back the graduation for the Senior Class. Graduation, which has been in discussion on how to proceed was originally planned to be held during June of this year. In an email sent by HHS Principal Melissa Hensley, graduation is being planned to be done virtually. This virtual graduation is currently going to be held June 6, 2020, and will feature pictures of the students in the Senior Class in their graduation cap and gown. While these items have not been distributed yet, HHS will be holding a distribution day for said items.

On May 6, 2020, HHS staff will distribute the caps and gowns on behalf of Jostens. This will be a no-contact distribution. Families will be asked to open their trunks until a HHS staff member puts the items in the trunk of the car to ensure safety. Orders for graduation caps and gowns can still be placed at Jostens.com or by calling  1-800-567-8367. If the order is placed during the week of April 26-May 2, it will be available for pickup on May 6. In addition to this, Jostens will have caps and gowns available for purchase during the distribution. Caps and gowns will go for $43.

Dates for a potential in-person graduation during the summer is still being discussed. This is if the possibility is open according to CDC and the Virginia Health Department recommendations.

“Our hearts go out to the Senior Class who had their senior year cut short by this unprecedented community situation.  We are proud of each of you and look forward to doing the our best to continued to celebrate your accomplishments,” Hensley said.
