Every year, the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) recognizes middle school, high school and collegiate student publications with Crown Awards. There are different categories that these awards can be earned in, including literary magazine, general magazine, hybrid news and yearbook. Winners are awarded either a gold or silver crown. Publications are judged on excellent design, photography, coverage and writing. Earlier today, the Newsstreak/ hhsmedia.com received the Gold Crown for hybrid news, which includes the print publication and online site. Newsstreak editor junior Oziel Valdez was very to excited to hear the results of the judging.

“[Winning a Gold Crown] feels really good. This year has been a lot for the staff and it’s really rewarding to see us win something. It’s a big milestone for the current staff and hopefully we can make it even further next year,” Valdez said.

1,145 publications from all four categories were judged in total and 69 won Gold Crown awards
