Micheal King has been teaching for — years as a gym teacher at Stone Spring Elementary school in Harrisonburg Virginia. He has had many different age levels of kids to teach. He enjoys teaching his students to be healthy and physical everyday. In this physical education class, the kids get to experience several different sports and activities, also including health class and family education.
His students enjoy him very much. They have learned a lot from his class including life skills not just how to play basketball. Six third grade students went as far as to rate gym with King, their top class of the day. Student in his third grade class agreed that King has taught them to be active outside of physical education. According to the California department of education one purpose is to motivate the well being to be healthy and physical. He challenges his students since he already knows he met his goal by making the students active outside of school and to be healthy.
“I have been a gymnastics coach before i became a gym teacher and all the sports just make me want to do all of them combined and gym is the perfect way to do that.” King said. King loves his job and he has taught all three of his children all enjoy the class. What it takes to be a gym teacher is all about passion and love for kids and maybe a few favorite sports. Being a gym teacher is a hard thing, you have to make everyone participate and you have to be very patient with the students. Not everyone can just pick up a ball and make a three pointer so you also have to teach them all these different skills to get up to that level. Learning a sport in gym just gives you the basics to be alright in that sport. Taking a sport in gym might influence to actually play that sport for the Harrisonburg High School.
