As 2019 comes to a close, many have already begun to look forward to the start of the next decade. While it was an eventful year across several platforms, the new year will bring many new innovations and changes in our society. Here are a few to look forward to.

Politics

In the United States, one of the biggest elections will take place in November of 2020. The presidential election has a major effect on the country and so far, 18 Democrats and 4 Republicans are in the running for president. Current president Donald Trump is one of the Republican candidates; 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton will not be running. One Democratic candidate that will be a major rival with Trump is former vice president Joe Biden. Regardless of the outcome, the election will have a lasting effect on our society. Entertainment 

In addition to major political events in 2020, the entertainment world will also be changed in the new year. Major movies such as “Black Widow,” “Ghostbusters,” “Fast and Furious 9,” “A Quiet Place: Part 2” and “No Time to Die” are all highly anticipated movies. In addition to movies, artists such as Lana Del Rey, Green Day, Charlie Puth, Chris Young and OneRepublic are all scheduled to drop new albums in 2020. 

Sports 

We can’t forget about the sports world either. In addition to the normal major events such as the Super Bowl, Masters, Indianapolis 500, Stanley Cup, NBA finals, U.S. open and World Series, there are a few events specific to 2020. The Summer Olympics will be held July 24 – Aug. 9 in Tokyo, Japan. This will allow athletes from all over the world to compete in various events on the biggest stage in the world. 

Fashion 

The fashion world will also have a new look for the new decade. Trends such as crochet, the disco collar, short-shorts, neon clothing, feathered clothes and vests are all predicted to make a reappearance in the spring of 2020. While not all of these trends are for everyone, be sure to explore the trends of the new year, even as just a joke. 

Technology 

As our world continues to grow and develop, technology will advance with it. New developments in artificial intelligence, 3D printing, nanotechnology, and virtual reality are expected this year. Apple will be releasing their first augmented reality (AR) glasses that are said to have holographic displays within the lenses, and Microsoft plans to release their dual-screen tablet which will allow apps to run side-by-side. Other major corporations such as Samsung and Amazon also have big plans for new technology next year. 

As we enjoy the last month of this decade, a new era begins with many innovations and developments that will change the way we live.
