The Redskins and the Nationals are two Washington teams that most students here at HHS talk about.

However, does anyone talk about the Capitals?

The Capitals are one of the best teams in the NHL right now and nobody talks about them. That’s interesting because I would think people would be more interested in all the action that is in hockey, but no. That’s not the case.

For one thing, it’s a really fast sport. You don’t even have time to blink or else you’ll probably miss something important. It might sound like a hard sport to watch, but as long as you pay attention, the fast action can be very exciting.

Also, the game barely stops. Here are the things that can stop a hockey game: penalty, offsides, injury, icing, goalie freezes the puck, puck goes outside the rink, the net moves, and when a goal happens. That’s it. It’s just another thing that makes hockey a fast sport.

Another thing is, the hits are much bigger than any other sport. Imagine a hockey player coming out of nowhere and checking you on the boards at ridiculous speeds when you can’t do anything about it. Not to mention there are brutal fights in hockey, and the worst that can happen is that you have to sit in a box for 2 minutes, 5 if the penalty was really serious. After those penalty minutes are up, the player is back on the ice to do more damage.

Those things aside, hockey can be fun to play with friends. All you need is a hockey stick, a puck (or ball), and a net which you can make out of almost anything. You can play hockey on foot, but it’s a lot of fun to play roller hockey so you might want to get some roller skates as well.

Overall, hockey is a really fun sport to watch and play. So give hockey a chance.
