Gadhafi’s death has been confirmed by CNN and other news networks. The former Libyan leader was wounded during a NATO air strike and died shortly after. He was captured by Libyan rebels in his last moments and according to an Al-Arabiya (Arabic news channel) video, was walked to a truck and taken away. There’s still some speculation as to how he died with some saying the wound killed him, while others say he was executed later by the Libyan rebels.
The death of Gadhafi marks the fall of the third Arab dictator. Ben Ali fled Tunisia after protests erupted there late 2010. The revolution then spread all over the Arab world, going to Egypt second, where Mubarak was ousted. All dictators that have fallen are from North Africa, while other Arab countries like Syria and Yemen are still struggling to gain their freedom.
Government teacher Kris Vass says Gadhafi’s death should hopefully bring democracy to Libya.
“My first reaction was whoo hoo! It’s awesome because it’s part of the whole movement for freedom [in the Middle East]. It’s a push for democracy,” Vass said.
