With the NFL under way and six weeks into the season it’s hard to believe that three months ago we were worrying about if there was even going to be a season. The NFL got over the hurdle and both sides came to an agreement now it seems time for the NBA to do so.
The NBA lockout is a bit more serious then the NFL lockout. The problem the NBA faces is the fact that the owners and managers aren’t as willing to budge on the idea of money. The players want to play and according the players spokesman Lakers guard Derrick Fisher, “we want a basketball season,” Fisher said to the press. It has come to such a point that this week David Stern has canceled the first two weeks of the season. He also in a release today said that the annual Christmas day games are also in jeopardy.
Players from around the league are looking for other ways to play. Most notably, NBA superstar Kobe Bryant is looking to sign a deal with an Italian team to play over the lockout. If he signs this deal he is expected to make three million dollars over the span of a month. While many other players are looking to proceed in this option some are also looking at other ideas inside the country. NBA pretty boy LeBron James has admitted via twitter that he might take up a chance to play in the NFL. James and Seahawks coach Pete Carroll have been conversing back and forth on Twitter and Carroll even tweetpicd a jersey with LeBron on the back.
Now what does all of this mean to the common fan? A season without having to hear all of the Heat fans moan and groan, no more we will win not one not two but four and five championships from the Big Three, no Blake Griffen highlight dunks, no more caption clutch as Kobe takes over in the fourth and no more Jeff Van Gundy and Sir Charles Barkley dumb founded remarks about game play. No NBA star has came out and a crazy remark such as Ray Lewis did when stating that without the NFL season, the crime rate across the country will go way up, a possible reason I think not Mr. Lewis.
I can’t sit here and say that I’m a huge NBA fan. I root for the Lakers and anyone playing against the Heat. I would miss all of the heated debates of how LeBron is the “greatest player” in the league, the Top 10 Plays that are almost always capped off by a big time slam dunk and of course the highlight of the season, All-Star break with the celebrity game, dunk contest, rookie game, skills competition and the All-Star game itself. The only positive that I see about the lockout would be the fact of James becoming an NFL player. Yes your big and fast but come across the middle on LaRon Landry and I promise that you will be seeing stars. Such stars that you can kiss your chances of winning a title away as you would never be the same.
