For years, senior Tommy Karageorge has created the image of a “sneakerhead” for himself. Boasting over 110 pairs of shoes, including Yeezys and Nike Air Maxes, Karageorge truly seems to enjoy buying and selling shoes.

“I used to have more but I sold a lot of my shoes. Right now they’re just spread around my house but if I count them up I’d say about 125, something like that,” Karageorge said.

While he holds quite the collection, his favorite shoes, however, are a highly coveted Nike collaboration with Sean Wotherspoon, priced around $700.

My Sean Wotherspoon Air Max 1/97’s [are probably my favorite shoes]. They’re a limited release that dropped last year on Air Max day, so they’re pretty limited and expensive. They’re unique. Not a lot of people have them,” Karageorge said.

The $700 spent on those shoes are only a fraction of what Karageorge spends yearly, which he has estimated to be over $1500.

“[I’ll spend] maybe more [in a year], depending on the shoes I’ve bought,” Karageorge said.

This has been the case for Karageorge since before he started high school.

“I started really buying shoes when I was in eighth grade, but I got into sneakers when I was in sixth grade, but in sixth grade I didn’t have money. I didn’t have a job to buy shoes that I wanted, so I would just go buy cool looking Air Maxes,” Karageorge said.

As he got into sneakers, Karageorge was able to go to Sneaker Con and purchase the pair that really ignited his sneaker buying habits.

“In eighth grade I got a job and I went to Sneaker Con and I got a nice pair of KD’s. That’s when I started buying shoes,” Karageorge said.

The most expensive pair of shoes that Karageorge has since bought was a pair of Yeezys. The expensive shoes, designed by rapper Kanye West are desired by many but owned by few, due to their often very high price.

“I sold [those Yeezys] a while back but I [did have] them. I got them for $2,000,” Karageorge said.

Karageorge was not particularly fond of the shoes, which was the reason he ultimately sold them.

“I regret buying those Yeezys, which is why I sold them. They were definitely not worth the $2,000.”

Those, however, have not been the only pair of Yeezys which Karageorge purchased.

“I had another pair of Yeezys that were a little cheaper and they were like a mesh material. They got caught on a desk here at school and they got a hole in them and I was so mad,” Karageorge said. “I found someone to buy them, he actually restored them. He sewed up the hole, he made it like perfectly brand new. I was pretty upset when I tore them, but he fixed them so [it turned out alright.]”
