Streaks defeat Wildcats on senior night
The Streaks had extra motivation going into their last regular season home game, which led to their 59-52 win. They celebrated four players on their senior night as well as a manager, Ayam Ali, and student assistant Pana Muhamad. As part of the celebration, the team’s four seniors; Josh Lichti, Taz Lockhart, Jakari Deaza and Christian Velker, joined junior D’Shawn Fields in the starting lineup.
The Streaks took on Valley District opponent Rockbridge County High School. The Streaks started hot with Velker dropping twelve in the first quarter. This gave the Streaks an early lead against the Wildcats.
The next quarter was dominated by another senior on the Streaks roster, as Lichti had seven points, four off of field goals and three off foul shots. The team had a total of twelve in the second to bring the score to 29-23 at the half.
Fields led the team in scoring after the half with nine of the team’s seventeen in the third quarter. To start the fourth quarter, the Streaks saw a change in the scoring patterns. They missed their first five shots of the quarter, which gave the Wildcats time to decrease the deficit they were in, eventually bringing it back only a two point lead for the Streaks. A three-pointer from Velker sparked the offense before it was too late and started the scoring efforts for the Streaks. The shots were contagious after that point which led to thirteen points by the Streaks to close the game.
The Streaks were led in scoring by Velker with 24 points and Lichti with 13.
