On September 7, the Varsity volleyball team is taking on Rockbridge High School. This is their second time meeting and Rockbridge is coming for revenge.
Senior Mikala Wolter, who plays in the middle for the Varsity volleyball team, was very anxious for this game. “I am very excited for the game because I know for a fact that we can win again and I have heard that a lot of people will be attending,” Wolter said.
Last time the two teams met, the Streaks beat them three games to one. “In the last game versus them, we won, but we killed ourselves by making silly mistakes such as not getting our serves in and making hitting errors,” Wolter said.
The Streaks have been preparing during practice for this game. They were working on offense and playing smart, according to Wolter. “In practice we worked on situations such as when someone does not give you a good set to hit, you have to improvise and find the holes in the court. That way, you can place it to the openings on the court which will allow the opposing team to struggle on defense,” Wolter said.
Senior Sarina Hartman, who plays outside hitter for the Streaks, is also excited for this game. “I always get excited for games because there is a lot of energy,” Hartman said.
The Streaks are hoping to win and it should be expected of them since the last time the two teams battled the Streaks came out on top.
“Rockbridge is a very good defensive team,” Hartman said. “Their hits tend to fall in the back court a lot, so if they get their hits in, they can be dangerous. We cannot come out being cocky though. If we want to win, we are going to have to bring our best performance.”
