Students are addicted to their cell phones
In the 21st century, portable cell phones have become more popular. This advancement in technology has been good for communication but not so great for addictions. In high school alone, most of the students have cell phones and pull them out not only when they have free time, but whenever they feel the need to check them. Cell phones are all that students think about when they are not on them, and it’s not healthy.
These devices are also an intrusion to students’ social experience. When there is a free minute, instead of talking to the person next to them, a student is more likely to pull out their phone. This is bad because it makes the human connections weak. People would prefer to text people that they already know instead of making a new friend by talking to the person next to them.
Even with the disadvantages of cell phone addictions there is good in cell phones too. Technology is helpful for many things, which is communication in this case. Having access to a person who has their phone on them all the time makes things safer. A parent can talk and check up on their kid at any time they need to.
Another example of the cell phone’s positive effects is that friend can make sure another friend is doing okay by simply texting them to ask. It is much easier to handle an emergency when you have a phone because you can call emergency services much easier.
Cell phones can be good for a certain amount of time, but when they get overused, that’s when they get bad. It’s okay to check them after your work in school is done to see if anyone texted you or to check social media. However, it is not okay to play games on it while the teacher instructs.
If students were more aware of how much they were addicted to their cell phones, then something could be done about it. Right now people deny that they that they even have the addiction.
Technology can be good, but only if it’s used for good.
