Streaks beat Waynesboro in four
Varsity volleyball beat the Little Giants of Waynesboro High School on Oct. 19 in four sets. The Streaks controlled the game for two sets until a Waynesboro comeback in the third set stopped their run.
The Streaks took an early 12-7 lead against the Little Giants after several plays made by senior Lucie Rutherford, including a mid-air save off of the net to send the ball back into play where senior Olivia Comer set for junior Becky Staton’s spike. They continued to rally around that point and ended the set 25-12.
The Streaks went on to post a similar score of 25-17 in the second set after multiple long rallies that resulted in a Harrisonburg point. Sophomore Jakaya Brandon contributed several kills in the second set to bolster the lead.
Waynesboro came into the third set stronger causing three lead changes and six ties. Waynesboro ended up taking a late lead after being tied 23-23 and stole the set at 25-23.
After the third set, the Streaks came back strong and took the fourth set quickly with a 25-15 win and a final of 3-1 to improve the team to an above .500 record. The Streaks will take on William Fleming in a home playoff game.
