Roethlisberger should stay with Steelers
March 3, 2017
The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback and two time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger has been with the Steelers for twelve years. Roethlisberger has made the comment “I’m going to take this offseason to evaluate, to consider all options…evaluate next season, if there’s going to be a next season.” Now, any NFL follower should agree with me that it would be a horrible decision for him to leave or retire. After winning the AFC North and having one of the top offenses in the league, Big Ben needs to stay with the Pittsburgh Steelers for at least one more season.
The Steelers offense is strong and just getting stronger. With Le’Veon Bell in the back field and Antonio Brown at receiver, Roethlisberger has some of the top targets in the game. This is even counting the fact that embattled receiver Martavis Bryant is making his return. Le’Veon Bell is one of the top receiving backs in the league with 616 yards. Antonio Brown is arguably the best receiver in the league with 106 receptions and 1,284 yards. Bryant is a beast after the catch averaging 15.3 yards a carry in the 2015 season. Roethlisberger is crazy if he is going to leave this team behind.
Roethlisberger is making $87,400,000 on a four year contract. His contract won’t change when they have to negotiate; he might even make more money. Why would a team not fight to keep a quarterback that has led them to two Super Bowl wins and a division title? The Steelers will do everything they can to keep him. Why would Roethlisberger leave a team that is so dedicated to him?
With the amount of potential the Steelers had and Roethlisberger’s past, there is no reason he shouldn’t return for the 2017 season. He needs to realize how much he has in Pittsburgh and what he could be losing if he leaves. If he stays, he could have the chance to bring home a seventh ring to the Steel City.
