Stop rioting against Trump
March 1, 2017
As a result of the recent election, most of the U.S. has broken in an outrage over President Trump’s victory. It started with the Women’s March in D.C. and continued with protests for his Immigration Ban, following many other riots. I normally wouldn’t have a problem with standing up for what you believe in, however I don’t believe this is beneficial for the states that are supposed to be united, particularly when we need unification the most. I understand the rioters are trying to get a point across, but the only result is more division in our country.
In recent times, it’s awfully hard for one to remember the saying, “You can’t always get what you want,” which is partially why I’m worried about my generation, who remains mostly liberal. We’ve had an alternating history of presidents who have been liberal and conservative, from Carter to now Trump. Every year up until now, each party has respectively, for the most part, accepted whoever was elected into office. Why does this change now? We can’t hate or fight against the other side’s views because no ideas are factually wrong; they are opinions. For that reason, we must come together and collaborate as one nation on our goals.
Remember when celebrities and even average citizens claimed to move to Canada? I don’t recall seeing anyone keep that promise. If moving to Canada was really the best option, why haven’t we seen more people relocate? Either be grateful for what you have here and fulfill your obligation as a citizen, or keep your promise and leave. President Trump is willing to listen and cooperate with Democrats, he’s said it himself and has even showed us that he works together with Democrats. You are not being completely silenced; you can still say your ideas or opinions on a particular matter, but stop rioting.
Results of rioting have included violence and personal property damage, which is in no way trying to get a positive point across. With threats of bombing the White House (i.e. Madonna), death threats against President Trump and his supporters and negative, bias media coverage towards President Trump’s team and family, I would say more bullying has been put on President Trump than claims of his “offensive” actions. To see a little boy get beat up for wearing a “Make America Great Again” shirt is honestly heartbreaking, particularly when he has hope for our country and wants to make it great.
Although this message is hard for liberals to hear, Hillary Clinton lost – period. President Trump has been in office for barely a month, so how can one say we ought to impeach him if he doesn’t have his cabinet in place? How can we march against him if we haven’t given him time to do his job? Compared to previous presidents, President Trump has met with many foreign leaders and has put in more time per week to advance our country. Republicans didn’t rebel or riot as a result of Obama’s inauguration. In fact, they gave him a chance to help America, which is what liberals ought to do for Trump. Trying to delay cabinet members from being selected and sworn in, nit-picking every detail in every elected official’s past and rioting and causing damage sounds like a sore loser to me. Rather than that, accept the change, hope for the betterment of our country and compromise with the opposing party in order to promote a more unified nation. Change is something this country advocates for, yet we are resistant to a leader’s new ideas who is passionate for our country’s success.
