Opinion: Top ten fashion trends of this year

  • Gladiator Sandals:

These summer sandals are inspired by the 1st century BC gladiators that fought for entertainment. Most of them only lace up to your ankle, but some go as far as your knee to give an extreme look. Women wear them with shorts for a boho look and usually come in different shades of brown so they can match with everything.

  • Suede:

Suede was introduced in the 60s/70s but recently has been popping up in clothing stores and is put on almost everything. Suede skirts, boots and jackets have been the most popular among teens these days. Not only do they match with your entire wardrobe, but the fabric is super soft as well!

  • Exposed Shoulders:

Uh-oh, dress code violation! Many shirts/dresses are going shoulderless for the summertime. Don’t show off your stomach with a crop top! Instead, wear an elegant top that won’t expose too much skin in public. Lightweight dresses that expose shoulders give a care-free, indie look to a casual outfit.

  • Two Pieces:

Two piece dresses are an edgy twist to the traditional format of a gown. They break up on the stomach area so the dress won’t be a boring rectangle. Although it is a crop top, most two pieces show little stomach and are very elegant. Celebrities have quickly joined in on this trend on the red carpets and at award shows.

  • Stripes:

This pattern has been in style ever since it was invented, but lately it has taken over the fashion world. Black and white stripes are simple and basic, but when you add accessories, your entire look can change. Stripes are so versatile that nothing will look bad over them.

  • (Half Up) Top Knot Hairstyle:alexia3

It all started when Ariana Grande revealed her interesting hair creation to the world while walking around town. I admit, at first I thought it was a hideous way to style your hair. Now it’s the new normal. This style is for those who want to get their hair out of their face, but don’t want to go as far as a bun. All you do is gather the top half of your hair and create a messy bun, simple!

  • Furry Coats:

IT’S SO FLUFFY (yes, Despicable Me reference, sorry!). These soft, oversized jackets became trendy after all the Kardashians (even North West) started to showcase them throughout the streets of NYC. Wearing one of these furry coats will make you feel like you’re wrapped in a blanket while doing your daily errands.

  • Athletic Fashion (Adidas, Yeezys, etc):alexia4

If you aren’t athletic whatsoever, but still enjoy those cute athletic pants, then this is the category for you! Brands like Adidas, Nike, and Kanye West’s “Yeezy” line have intrigued people outside of the athletic world and in the fashion world. It is now acceptable for a girl to buy some Yeezy sneakers who has never run a mile in her life. Who can blame her after wearing heels all day?

  • Turtlenecks:alexia2

I know what you’re thinking. “Aren’t those made for geeks in the winter time?” I thought that too, but trust me, turtlenecks are essentials for the upcoming winter. Look at it this way: it’s a two in one package deal. Not only does it keep your neck warm, but it also adds a classy look to your outfit. There are so many options to choose from when it comes to turtlenecks, so you won’t be let down.

  • Layered Necklacesalexia1

Let’s get this straight: one necklace is never enough! I know it might seem intimidating to wear five necklaces at a time, but it truly isn’t. The key to layering jewelry is to use simple and small details that won’t overwhelm your outfit. Plus, you can also layer bracelets and rings to give your hands some attention.
