This year, the Luhns went to France for Spring Break. Freshman Avanelle (Ava) Luhn went on a trip to France for two weeks starting this past week extending through Spring Break.
“We are staying on the Île Saint-Louis, whis is an Island on the Seine [river] in Paris,” Luhn said, “So far I have visited the Cathedral of Notre Dame, Sacré-Cœur Basilica, I climbed the Eiffel Tower, went to the Louvre Museum, the Museé D’Orsay, and the Arc de Triumph. I also went to the Paris Opera where the Panton of the Opera took place and where ballet was first studied and performed.”
Luhn and her family plan to keep sightseeing and touring more of France as their vacation goes on.
“We’re going to Blois, which is about two hours outside of Paris, and Chartres, which is about and hour outside of Paris, if you take the TGV, which is a really fast train. We’re going to those places to see Castles,” Luhn said, “We have been to many different restaurants and Cafés so far and we’re planning on going to more. We took the metro to many different sites and we have taken lots of pictures. Hopefully I will take a tour of the Seine on a river boat and also ride the Paris Ferris Wheel that looks over the whole city.”
Ava Luhn took French One during middle school and is currently taking French Two.
“I have had an opportunity to practice my French and I have been able to hear my mom speak French a lot more than she does at home, which is really cool because she has a beautiful French Accent.”
Luhn has been to France once before when she was one year old to visit family.
“We went to France because my mom used to live there and we have family in France. We came partly to see the city and all it has to offer but mostly because it has been many years since we had seen my mom’s family and we needed to see them,” Luhn said, “I normally go to Washington D.C. over Spring Break. If I hadn’t gone to Paris I would be eating and watching a lot of Netflix and sleeping all day but I would not want to be anywhere else but here, because I really like the French culture, food, language, and because I have family here.”
