DECA to host district boys volleyball tournament
March 17, 2016
In addition to the event last November, DECA is sponsoring a district boys volleyball tournament. The date is set for April 14 in the gymnasium. The event is being held as a fundraiser for DECA. Proceeds will help pay for the national convention in late April. Concessions will be available as well as HHS apparel for spring sports. DECA advisor and marketing teacher Mallory Cromer has been planning the event.
“This is one of three fundraisers we are doing to help offset the cost of the trip. The cost was around $600, but we have gotten down to around $350 before fundraising,” Cromer said.
The tournament will feature a junior and senior team from HHS, Spotswood and Turner Ashby. A round robin format will be used to determine a junior winner and senior winner. Both winning teams will then go on to play in an overall championship.
Senior Parker Strickland is looking forward to a chance to avenge their loss to the junior team a few months back to in the championship.
“I always look forward to the volleyball tournament, it will be fun to play other schools for a change,” Strickland said.
The doors will open at 5:00 p.m. and play will begin at 6:00 p.m. Admission is $2 per person. There is a team registration fee of $24, but each team is limited to 12 players. Sign-ups for the event will begin March 19 and go until March 25 in room 452.
