Gallery: Cross Country competes at fairgrounds
October 13, 2015
The cross country meet on Oct. 7th took place at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds on a cloudy, chilly day. The Harrisonburg runners, with a secure spot in the conference, paced the slower runners so they could run a personal record, or “PR”, which in cross country terms means “push themselves”. There are currently top seven runners on both boys and girls teams, which will continue on in the conference. These top seven on the boys team are Abraham Amine, MoBerhe Mekonin, Isaiah King, Christian Gehman, Evan Jost, Gebrehiwot Amine and Diego Avila. The top seven boy runners did not run with all their might in this meet as they were helping their other fellow teammates beat their times.
The meet started just like the other one with the boys gathered up in a circle to prepare themselves for their race.
“Nick Deutsch likes to hype up the team he likes to say random stuff before the race. So, he gets us in a circle and likes to quote-on-quote [be] “preaching” to us,” senior Diego Avila said.
After their little ritual the boys split up and started to get ready for their individual race. This meet wasn’t like the others, since the top seven boys didn’t take it as seriously because they were already secured for conference meet. Instead, they assisted the other team member so their times would get up as well.
