Q&A with Prom court nominees
April 13, 2015
Ariel Vogel (A) sat down with several of the nominees for prom court.
I: Senior Isabelle Burden
E: Senior Evan Dotas
Av: Junior Ava Reynolds
P: Junior Paul Weiss
J: Junior Joshua Byrd
A: How do you feel?
I: It’s cool to know that people were thinking of you!
E: Swagged out. In reality: I’m excited for it. It isn’t a major deal, but it’s still nice to be nominated.
Av: I was surprised. I wasn’t expecting to be nominated, nor was I considering introductions very heavily.
P: I’m on the fence.
J: It was unexpected.
A: Do you want to be king/queen/princess/prince?
I: Yeah, I think it would be cool to be Prom Queen. It’s in, like, all the John Hughes movies.
E: I’d like to be, especially since I was prince last year. But if someone else really wanted it, I’d be happy if they won.
Av: I mean if I win, sure that would be awesome or fine, but I’m not striving to be princess.
P: I will not be upset if I’m not.
J: It’s not something I am going to campaign for, but it would be cool if I won.
A: What are you wearing?
I: A dress…
E: Since I don’t have the chops for Robby Ross’s all-camo tux, I’ll probably just find some typical suit and try to look nice.
Av: My dress is black with a gold and sequined top.
P: Probably a tux.
J: Black tuxedo with a purple bowtie and pocket square.
A: Are you going with a date? If so, who?
I: I am, I’m going with my boyfriend, Noah Heie.
E: I’m going with my girlfriend of two years, Brenna Cowardin.
Av: Yes, Austin Swift.
P: Yes, Molly Campillo.
J: Yes, Jaymie Inouye.
A: What will you do if you win?
I: I think I’ll be pretty hype for a bit. Then I’ll text my grandparents.
E: Shots are on me. Except that’s completely false. I’ll give an awkward smile, do my dance, then put my sash away in the closet for eternity.
Av: Be happy, although I’m kind of worried about the dance with everyone watching you if you win.
P: It may be fun, but I have no planned idea.
J: Nothing.
A: Did you expect to be nominated?
I: No, it was a nice surprise.
E: Yeah, I think I did. I’ve been on the prom court and homecoming court for both my junior and senior years now, and I have a strong voting block from which I can whip votes.
Av: No, not at all! I was very surprised.
P: For the most part, yeah.
J: No, I did not.
A: Do you have a favorite in the other sections?
I: I mean, everyone’s pretty cool. Evan Dotas is a good friend of mine, so it’d be cool if he won.
E: I’d really like for Ava Reynolds to win the princess. I don’t have a major preference for the prince, and I’m friends with everyone up for queen, so I don’t really mind.
Av: I would love if Graham or Evan win for King, also Caroline and Isabelle are both nice and I would be happy if they won, but I don’t care that much.
P: Not particularly.
J: No.
A: What are benefits of being q/k/p/p?
I: You get a cool sash. Honestly, who doesn’t want a sash?
E: It’s beneficial just because you get a little bit of recognition. But really, it’s just another title. It all fades away at the start of the dance.
Av: I’ll get to meet the other nominees and get to know new people.
P: I have no idea.
J: There are none.
A: Who did you nominate?
I: I nominated Victoria Giron and Anna Dick for Queen and Aarash Heydari and Michael Walton for King. I think they are cool people and very worthy of a nomination.
E: I shamelessly nominated myself and my girlfriend, along with Phoebe Copeland. I forgot to nominate Graham Rebhun, which is sad.
Av: I sadly did not participate in nominations. I probably would have nominated my friends mostly as a joke if I had, though.
P: I nominated Kayla Leaman for girls, and Nick and Devin Medley.
J: I didn’t nominate anyone.
A: What are you most looking forward to about prom?
I: Dressing to the nine’s and feeling beautiful around good friends is always a fun time. Dancing is a plus as well. I hope the DJ is good this year.
E: I just enjoy spending a bunch of time with my friends, and prom is just another excuse for that.
Av: Just looking nice and hanging out with friends.
P: Just having a fun time.
J: Having a good time.
