The Wedding Ringer a break from the usual drama

It’s that time of year again! We finally get a break from the dramatic real life stories that come with every Oscar season, and get to enjoy a little Kevin Hart. As a Kevin Hart fan, I really liked The Wedding Ringer, but I was not doubled over trying to breath like I expected to be. I did not see it as being much of a great comedy as I thought it was a good overall movie.

Kevin Hart never ceases to impress, and this movie was no exception. He and Josh Gad make a great duo, their on screen chemistry was effortlessly fun and interesting. The Wedding Ringer will not only make you laugh but also speculate. Unlike many comedies today, it had a story that you want to follow and feel. Obviously not oscar worthy, but more than I had expected. I went in expecting a compilation of jokes that loosely tied up at the end, but instead I was pleasantly surprised. At the end of the movie the credits didn’t have to start for you to be sure that it was done. There were funny parts, and then there were sections that were underlined with something a little more. The Wedding Ringer came together in a nice, yet not corny, way.

The movie opens with a man that has hired Jimmy (a.k.a.Kevin Hart) to be his best man. He makes such a heartwarming speech about all of the memories  he and his “best friend” shared through the years. However, it is strictly business, no friendships or real bonding of any kind are permitted.

Then you meet Josh Gad’s character Doug. He is in the process of planning a wedding that is all about the bride, but there is a problem. While she was able to reunite with seven bridesmaids, Doug struggled to find one man. So he did what every rational man in his situation would do. He hired them. Seven bachelors and one best man later Doug finally has the experience of being “one of the guys”. Which , until Jimmy, was completely foreign ground.

I only have two pieces of bad feedback to say about the movie. One, is that you can probably guess the ending just by watching the preview, and two is the unique voice of Josh Gad. He has also played the lovable snowman from Frozen, Olaf. What you would normally picture as hilarious banter, suddenly turns into that sweet little snowman dropping the F bomb. Just try not to fixate on it and it will wear off eventually, then you can relax and enjoy the rest of the movie.

The Wedding Ringer is a must see movie for all of you diehard Kevin Hart fans! It is a great break from all of the heavy Oscar movies of the Fall season. If you are looking for a feelgood, funny, heartwarming movie, then this is the one you should see.
