Smith’s smooth singing inspires Joven
December 10, 2014
Ever since I heard Sam Smith’s single “Stay With Me”, I’ve fallen in love with his voice and wonderful talent. I never get tired of hearing his songs. His latest album, “In The Lonely Hour”, was released in the US in June with fourteen tracks in the deluxe edition. It includes hit singles such as “Money on My Mind”, “Stay with Me”, and “I’m Not the Only One”.
I haven’t listened to all ten of the standard edition, and I should, but so far my personal favorite is “I’m Not The Only One”. I’ve been singing it everywhere; you name the place. If I’m in the shower I always have a concert, but for the past few months I sing this one a couple times before I move on to the next song. If I’m in school, I sing it in my mind or hum it.
For someone who’s “never been in a relationship before”, Smith’s certainly writing songs about love that can reach anyone. He talked to Fader about this album in particular also.
“I’ve made my music so that it could be about anything and everybody – whether it’s a guy, a female or a goat – and everybody can relate to that,” Smith said in the interview. Unfortunately, he has been heartbroken since he’s been in relationships where people didn’t return that love.
Also, I feel like he has a humble personality based on the interviews of him that I read or watched on YouTube. To me, he’s inspiring since I am a person who loves to sing too.
“I want to make the music that’s not there anymore. I’m so passionate about the singing voice,” Smith said. “It’s my voice that’s the instrument. It’s hard, it’s difficult – I watch artists around me that have 200 fans waiting outside of hotels and venues for them and they can’t sing.” When I read this, all I could think of was: “That is so true.”
Sam Smith is a virtuoso singer. He’s one of those famous artists that actually sounds beautiful when performing live. His voice is one of the few that will always give me goosebumps – especially when he sings the falsettos.
