“Legendary,” is how strong safety senior Zack Dean described Coach Tim Sarver.
Coach Sarver is indeed legendary having amassed 265 wins over his 26 years as coach of the Blue Streaks, which ranks fourth in the state among active coaches.
He also has a state championship victory on his resume. He has put many hours of work in both football and school.
According to senior tailback Michael Holmes, his most lasting achievement is “his state championship back in 2001.”
Senior offensive tackle Landon Turner agrees.
“His finest coaching moment was with the state championship team,” Turner said. “Coach Sarver prides himself on playing with class, and that might be more important to him than any victory.”
Turner, Holmes, and Dean all enjoyed their experiences under Coach Sarver.
“Coach Sarver is old-fashioned, and that’s what I like about him,” Holmes said.
Turner added one word to describe him, “Donnybrook.”
“Playing for Coach Sarver were four of the best years of my life,” Dean said.
Sarver will not only be missed on the field, but off it, too. Math teacher Mr. Murray said that he will miss passing by Sarver’s classroom each day to say “Good morning.”
Mr. Tueting, a history teacher, is going to miss Sarver just as much.
“I will miss having him next door because when I don’t know something, I can go next door, and 95 percent of the time, he will know the answer to my problem.”
Both Tueting and Murray expressed work ethic as one of Sarver’s best features. Murray added that Sarver and his coaching staff provide, “A second ring of family for the players,” he added, “A home away from home.”
