“My next step is to go to Norfolk Naval Apprenticeship to become a Marine Diesel Mechanic. It’s a four-year plan. I will be attending Tidewater Community College while working at the shipyard for 40 hours a week. There are two nine-week sessions of school your first year. The pay range starting off is $15 an hour. Through the years as you develop into higher grades as a technician and are successful in getting good grades, you can get raises. When you finish, you come out as the highest grade technician and have a job with the government to work on naval ships. I have always liked doing hands-on work. I picked up a project jet ski to fix up and I really enjoyed doing it. I realized I had a passion for it. It is nice to see a place where you can come out as a technician and not have to worry about student loans. At HHS, I enjoyed playing sports and making memories that will last forever. Through the ups and the downs of HHS, at the end, you get a just of the importance of taking the world seriously. It is important to take the next step seriously because the real world is not a joke. You have to have the urge to do something you love. Anything is possible if you put your mind to it. Do what you love. Don’t get senioritis. Come to class on time. Do your work. Finish out on good-standing because if you slack, the thing you choose to do next won’t be easy. Take senior year as a preparation step for what comes next in life.”
