Opinion: The Book Thief a must-read

The Book Thief may be depressing at times, but it is truly unforgettable.

Okay you must read the Book Thief… it is unsurpassed. If you read it and don’t cry, you don’t have a soul.

The book is insanely awesome, because its narrated by death himself. You start the novel with Death talking about colors and you  think “God, this is gonna be an ‘emo who sits in the corner’ kind of novel,”. It is a little sad, but the book, taking place in Nazi, Germany, is adventurous, dismal, and even cute at times. The main characters are complex, like Rosa Hubberman, who seems to be really mean, but truly cares about the main character Liesel. I especially liked the little love story between Liesel and Rudy. Whenever Liesel stole a book you would cheer her on. The book ends a little depressing for my taste, but that’s what makes it unforgettable. Its also different from many World War II novels that usually follow a Jewish person in the ghettos or something, because the characters are free people who have been affected by the war and don’t support Hitler.

Freshman Rachel Cavoto said, “I thought it was wonderful and everyone should read it.”
