Krispy Kreme provides flexible job for Perez

An iconic ring-shaped type of bread covered with glaze is an immediate thought after hearing the words Krispy Kreme. For generations, the popular donut store has served delicious donuts and a variety of coffees, which have all contributed to its success. Junior Tony Perez found this store to be a gleaming opportunity to begin his path towards working a job for the first time.

After working at the store for a month and a half, he has found the job and team easy to get along with. Perez also believes it is a positive environment to work in for those trying to avoid issues involving annoying customers.

“[I’ve] never had any problems with anyone unless they were rude. The customers are usually pretty nice and everyone gets along. We’ve never really had a problem, ” Perez said.

Ironically, Perez isn’t a huge fan of donuts. While donuts are a notable piece of the store brand, he is not reluctant to express his thoughts on how providing other options would be beneficial.

“I actually don’t like donuts [even though] we are a donut place, we should [at least] have sandwiches or basic restaurant meals to attract more people,” Perez said.

The store isn’t always packed, unless the occasional donut special or holiday event comes along. Perez works as a cashier and drive-thru, so it can be overwhelming to work under these conditions during these events. Despite this, Perez has found working at “Krispy Kreme” to be an uncomplicated job to work under and easy to balance schoolwork with.

“In my opinion, it’s probably one of the better jobs that you can [have], especially if it’s your first job and you’re in high school,” Perez said. “It’s really flexible with my schedule and other people’s schedules. It’s just a very straightforward job with what you have to do, and probably one of the best ones [at doing that].”
