The Harrisonburg High School Junior Varsity Volleyball team took on Fort Defiance yesterday at 6:00 p.m.  Fort took an early lead in the first match, staying ahead of the Streaks by at least four points until the end.

During the second match there was a noticeable difference on the court: both sides were more concentrated on the game. If Fort Defiance won, the game would be over right away. If the Streaks won, a third match would be played to determine the winner. Unfortunately, the Streaks lost, 21-25.

“We worked really hard, and we were prepared physically. We just needed better focus mentally and we need a better ‘family’ union.” eighth grader Tamara Chepelyuk said.

Freshman Vicky Guadalupe agrees. “We’ve had better games. The game wasn’t as intense as we thought it would be, because some of the girls were down. We weren’t pumped, but hopefully we will be in the future.” Guadalupe said.

One of the main problems apparent during the game was the lack of communication.

“It was on of the worst games we’ve ever had, because nobody talked to each other and there was a lot of tension.” sophomore Brooke Coffelt said. “Next time we need to talk and trust each other.”

Despite this loss, the team – and coaches – remain optimistic.

“They worked real hard. They just need more experience,” volleyball coach Andy Thompson said.
